Formal Concept Analysis: Its Role in Teaching Lattice Theory
نویسنده
چکیده
In this talk I shall relate some of my experiences in teaching lattice theory and the theory of ordered sets to undergraduates since 1975. I will show how Formal Concept Analysis can be used as a unifying and motivating example in many parts of the theory.

The syntactic concept lattice: Another algebraic theory of the context-free languages?
The syntactic concept lattice is a residuated lattice associated with a given formal language; it arises naturally as a generalisation of the syntactic monoid in the analysis of the distributional structure of the language. In this paper we define the syntactic concept lattice and present its basic properties, and its relationship to the universal automaton and the syntactic congruence; we cons...
متن کاملConcept lattices of fuzzy contexts: Formal concept analysis vs. rough set theory
This paper presents a comparative study of concept lattices of fuzzy contexts based on formal concept analysis and rough set theory. It is known that every complete fuzzy lattice can be represented as the concept lattice of a fuzzy context based on formal concept analysis [R. Bělohlávek, Concept lattices and order in fuzzy logic, Ann. Pure Appl. Logic 128 (2004) 277–298]. This paper shows that ...
متن کاملFormal Concept Analysis as Mathematical Theory of Concepts and Concept Hierarchies
Formal Concept Analysis has been originally developed as a subfield of Applied Mathematics based on the mathematization of concept and concept hierarchy. Only after more than a decade of development, the connections to the philosophical logic of human thought became clearer and even later the connections to Piaget’s cognitive structuralism which Thomas Bernhard Seiler convincingly elaborated to...
متن کاملBipolar fuzzy graph representation of concept lattice
Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is a mathematical framework for knowledge processing tasks. FCA has been successfully incorporated into fuzzy setting and its extension (interval-valued fuzzy set) for handling vagueness and impreciseness in data. However, the analysis in such settings is restricted to unipolar space. Recently, some applications of bipolar information are shown in bipolar fuzzy gra...
متن کاملUsing Matrix Decompositions in Formal Concept Analysis
One of the main problems connected with the formal concept analysis and lattice construction is the high complexity of algorithms which plays a significant role when computing all concepts from a huge incidence matrix. In some cases, we only need to compute some of them to test for common attributes. In our research we try to modify an incidence matrix using matrix decompositions, creating a ne...
